Technology is evolving fast and PMETs need to be at the same pace to stay employable and meet industry requirements. In recent times, skilled professionals are needed by companies but still, the rate of unemployment is high. The reasons behind this are lack of training and skills gap.


Skills Programme for Hosting Company is a blessing for both. Companies get a chance to further train candidates, who participate in the SGUS courses. Candidates on the other hand train with some of the best organisations, who are already looking for upskilled candidates for different job roles.


Which Institution to Select?


Singapore Polytechnic (SP) PACE Academy, holds to key to success when it comes to upskilling and reskilling. It has several interesting programmes added to its course list for jobseekers and mid-career professionals.


SGUS Programme is one of the recent initiatives it is promoting during the global pandemic. The participating companies offer Attachment (popularly known as Practicum) after the candidates are over with their initial training from the mentors. The training with the companies may range between one (1) to there (3) months depending on the programmes the trainees have chosen.


Training is provided based on six (6) emerging sectors - InfoComm Media, Built Environment, Social Service, Manufacturing, Sea Transport and Cross-sectoral Emerging Skills.


During the exhaustive training with companies, the trainees are introduced to several norms and guidelines of training organisations. The trainees need to work for 44 hours a week. Any extra hour of work must be intimidated before. The extra hours must be compensated with pay or leaves.


A good thing about the whole event is that if a company finds a particular candidate suitable for its vacant positions, it can hire the person during the attachment, or just after the Practicum.


The process helps companies to assess potential candidates before their job placement. Companies do not need to browse through different portals for their permanent employees and get access to a talent pool in one place.
